Major UK Energy Company Selects Servelec Controls for Offshore Safety System Upgrade

Servelec Controls is proud to announce that it has been selected by one of the UK’s largest energy companies to supply replacement Fire & Gas and Emergency Shut-Down Systems for a UKCS offshore platform.

Over recent years Servelec Controls has successfully carried out the upgrade of safety systems on seven platforms and two onshore receipt terminals for the same operator, in addition to subsequent system expansions.

Safety Integrity Level 2

As with the previous assets, Servelec Controls will be installing a SIL2 rated, PLC based safety system and new SCADA system development, offering full visualisation and control. Further to this all field devices as specified in the clients Fire & Gas mapping study will also be supplied.

In order to minimise any downtime, the new safety systems will be installed alongside the current system until such time that a managed changeover can be carried out, to take place in a planned shutdown. The obsolete safety system will then be deconstructed and removed from the asset along with a rationalisation process of all field devices for removal/replacement.

The project will be controlled by one of Servelec Controls' many TUV Certified Functional Safety Project Managers, to ensure full compliance with IEC 61508 and 61511. All associated panel design, build and test will take place at Servelec’s 15,000 square ft, in-house manufacturing facility.

Kevan Jones, Managing Director of Servelec Controls Oil & Gas commented:

“This prestigious project award is testament to the hard-work and dedication of the entire Servelec Controls team over the last 10 years.

The strong relationships developed with the client over this period, from our sales through to our operational teams, have been key to the mutual trust now in place between the two companies.

The very fact that this award comes during one of the most challenging periods the Oil and Gas sector has faced in recent years, reaffirms our clients’ confidence in Servelec Controls ability to deliver the project on time and in budget.”

The project value is initially circa £1 million with a planned project timeline of 18 months.
