Servelec Controls, an independent integrator of mission critical control and safety systems, presented its remote operations solution at the prestigious Topsides UK conference in Aberdeen earlier this week (14 June 2017).

Servelec Controls’ remote operations solution is an operation and maintenance programme that provides long-term field viability by enabling de-manning through new remote automation technology. Speaking to a packed audience of the UK’s largest oil and gas operators and suppliers in the UK, including Servelec Controls’ client and fellow presenter Centrica, Chris Stones, Business Development Director at Servelec Controls explained: “Following a tragic helicopter accident in 2006 Servelec Controls began to ask the question, how can we minimise manned interventions?

“Through several iterations, designs and many technological questions Servelec Controls’ answer became what our first client for this solution, Centrica, refers to as Simplification.”

Benefits of remote operations/Simplification

Discussing the drivers for change, Chris Stones continued: “The key driver for operators is improving the safety of their workforce supporting ageing assets. However, as remote operation has developed additional benefits became clear including extending the viable life of ageing assets and delaying their potential decommissioning.” Recently, Servelec Controls’ remote operations solution was acknowledged in the EIC’s Survive and Thrive report, which praised Servelec Controls for the solution’s innovative approach. The author of the report, Stuart Broadley, CEO at EIC stated:

“This disruptive innovation decreases O&M costs, improves safety and ultimately maximises asset value. This is a game-changing idea for the oil and gas sector and an opportunity for oil companies across the world.” Stuart Broadley. CEO, EIC.
