Servelec Controls, an award-winning leading independent integrator of mission critical control and safety systems, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a position on the framework for the provision of integration services for the European Spallation Source (ESS). ESS is a multi-disciplinary research facility and one of the largest science infrastructure projects being built in Europe today. The consortium’s vision is to build and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source, enabling scientific breakthroughs in research related to materials, energy, health and the environment.

Following a formal tendering process, Servelec Controls has been successful in securing a position on the framework to supply embedded systems integration engineering services, industrial/process systems integration engineering services, control systems infrastructure integration engineering services, control systems safety related integration engineering services, control systems technical and installation services and integration project administration, management and training services.

Following the framework award, Andrew Mills, Managing Director of Servelec Controls said: “The ESS facility is one of the most exciting and ambitious engineering projects in Europe. Servelec Controls is delighted to be part of the global collective effort of scientists, engineers and suppliers and we look forward to contributing our award winning system integration services to the project.”

ESS, which will welcome its first researchers in 2023, will provide the tools for analysis that will enable the next important discoveries in nanotechnology, life science, pharmaceuticals, materials engineering, and experimental physics. It is understood that ESS, both through the research that will be performed there and the establishment of the facility itself, will serve as an economic driver for all of Europe.

The facility design includes a 5 MW linear proton accelerator, a rotating tungsten target station, 22 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software centre.

Servelec Controls is one of the largest independent systems integrators, established with many of the leading automation equipment manufacturers worldwide. Servelec Controls specialises in industrial control, safety and real-time information systems delivering full turnkey engineering solutions and is an industry leader in the design and implementation of functional safety systems.
