Servelec Controls, a leading independent integrator of mission critical control and safety systems, has been recognised as the most innovative company supplying the UK energy industry in 2017 by The Energy Industries Council (EIC), winning the member organisation’s flagship Innovation Award and Company of the Year Award.

Servelec Controls’ Remote Operations solution was nominated for the Innovation Award after it was featured in The EIC’s ‘Survive and Thrive’ Report, published earlier this year. The special report identifies the strategies and best practices used by companies of all sizes and sectors to grow and prosper during recent challenging market conditions. Rounding off an excellent evening, Servelec Controls was also recognised as The EIC's company of 2017 having been chosen by judges from winners of all the EIC's award categories.

On Servelec Controls receiving both awards, Andrew Mills, Managing Director at Servelec Controls said: “As oil and gas becomes more difficult and costly to extract, new approaches are required to maximise the economic benefits for both the UK and the industry as a whole. Servelec Controls has identified a solution that, through remote operation and automation of production and monitoring from onshore, maximises the life of ageing assets, saves money, increases efficiency and improves safety. It rescues the life of aged assets aligning them to current legislation and regulation and ultimately returns them to commercial viability.

“These awards are deserved recognition for my colleagues within Servelec Controls who are amongst the most skillful and dedicated in our industry. We will continue to develop innovative solutions that help our clients ‘survive and thrive’ by increasing efficiency, save money and maintain the viability of their UK assets.”

2017 has been a strong year, which has seen Servelec Controls awarded two contracts to provide their Remote Operations solution for their DP6 and DP8 normally unmanned offshore gas platforms in the North East Irish Sea.  Following completion, the Centrica projects will:

  • Reduce manned interventions by a minimum of 60%
  • Extend forecasted end-of-life by at least 15 years
  • Provide return on investment inside two years.
  • Dramatically improve maintenance planning
  • Defer costly decommissioning.

Commenting on the awards ceremony EIC CEO Stuart Broadley said, ‘The award categories were designed to recognise the strategies that EIC member companies of all sizes and sectors are developing to grow and flourish at home and abroad. Servelec Controls’ remote operation, maintenance and monitoring solution is breathing new life into mature energy assets as well as greatly increasing safety.

‘In addition to the individual award categories, we also created the EIC Company of the Year Award in recognition of overall supplier excellence. After much deliberation our judging panel felt that their use of proven innovation and the safety, O&M cost savings, and energy security benefits they provide meant Servelec Controls were a worthy winner of this prestigious award.’
